A teen was seriously injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Sound Beach Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at the Jamaica Drive and Deer Drive intersection.
Witnesses say 18-year-old Kyle Fiore was riding a motorbike when he was hit by an early-2000 model vehicle, described as light-colored or tan.
"That driver came right through the stop sign...and you heard the bang and Kyle just flying at least 30 feet in the air," says witness Jackie Casey.
Fiore was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. He suffered a broken leg and other injuries that were not life-threatening.
The incident rekindles the debate over whether hit-and-run drivers should face felony charges.
In a News 12/Hofstra University poll, 90 percent approved of increasing the penalty. Only 6 percent disapproved. Four percent were undecided.
Anyone with more information on the crash is asked to call Suffolk police at 1-800-220-TIPS.
