A man died after apparently driving his car off a dock in Manhasset Bay Friday.
A Buick LeSabre was pulled from the water early Friday afternoon, shortly after divers removed a man's lifeless body from inside. The pier, near the Port Washington Yacht Club, is not visible from the street and locals say one would have to be familiar with the area to find it.
Police say a yacht club employee called 911 around 8:40 a.m. when he noticed the damaged guardrail and then the car submerged in about 10 feet of water right below.
Police say they do not believe anyone else was in the car at the time and that the death appears to be an accident. They are still investigating how long the car was in the water and are not releasing the name or age of the victim until next of kin of notified.
