A new school year comes with a new sidewalk project in Shirley to keep kids safe.
Sidewalks will be added to surround William Floyd Elementary and John S. Hobart Elementary, both in the William Floyd School District.
State officials say the plan won't cost taxpayers a dime.
They say the entire project is being paid for by a $250 million state grant.
The sidewalks are expected to be completed before the winter.
