Riverhead High School was temporarily placed in a hold-in-place response Friday due to a bullet that was found, according to a letter sent by the district.
The letter says that a student found one bullet in a hallway in the school and immediately brought it to the attention of building administration.
It goes on to say, "A second student came to building administration with a bullet he was given that matched the first."
The Riverhead Police Department then became involved and began an investigation.
Movement in and out of the school was restricted until the student who allegedly brought the bullets to school was apprehended. The district says that student did not have a weapon and was then taken into police custody.
The high school eventually returned to normal conditions.
The superintendent says, "At no point were any students, faculty or staff in harm's way."
