Several attorneys who worked for Long Island school districts are getting reimbursed for pension funds after a ruling was issued against state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
As News 12 Long Island has reported, some school districts hired private attorneys and improperly listed them as full-time employees, making them eligible for a state pension. DiNapoli fought and got the money back.
However, a judge just ruled DiNapoli didn?t follow due process in his efforts and therefore must give the money back to the lawyers.
The comptroller can still revoke the pensions, but has to hold hearings in each case. DiNapoli?s office says it would have appealed the decision, but thought the hearing process would be quicker.
