Demonstrators hit the streets Thursday to call on Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state lawmakers to pass a measure that would allow undocumented immigrants to get driver's licenses.

Sylvia Garcia, of Brentwood, says her not having a license is a hardship for her children, especially when it comes to getting them to school.

Make the Road New York organized Thursday's march in hopes of the bill, which has been floating around Albany for some time, becoming law. The 3-mile march started in Brentwood and wrapped at the DMV in Hauppauge.

Those in favor of the legislation say it would bring more than $50 million of annual revenue to the state. But some are opposed to it, saying people should first become U.S. citizens.

Twelve states have already passed laws that allow undocumented immigrants to get a driver's license.

The New York bill is being discussed in an Assembly committee. It hasn't been brought up yet in the state Senate.
