A Riverhead man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for an attempted murder that occurred in August of 2023, according to prosecutors.

Authorities say Jason Schaal admitted to intentionally using his car to hit a woman on a sidewalk in Brooklyn. The 38-year-old victim suffered injuries including cuts to her head.

Schaal continued to drive erratically and crashed into an MTA bus. He later told officers that he did this in the hopes of flipping the vehicle.

The bus driver sustained injuries to his neck and back.

Schaal pleaded guilty to the attempted murder charge last month.
