New York Democrats gained control of the New York state Senate Tuesday with at least 32 seats in the 62-seat chamber.
Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) will lose his position, which Long Island Republicans say will be detrimental to the Island.
?If we would lose the Senate, every single leader statewide would be from New York City,? Skelos said earlier Tuesday. ?They've never stood up for Long Island. They've never stood up for suburban communities.?
The Democrats control the Senate, Assembly and governor's office for the first time since the Great Depression.
