After spending nearly three weeks in an Iraqi jail, a former Army Green Beret from North Babylon working as a defense contractor was set free thanks to Rep. Peter King (R-Seaford).
Alex Antiohos says he spent 18 terrifying days in custody after his arrest by the Iraqi Army Dec. 9. The former Special Ops soldier was working as a security contractor escorting a convoy through Mahmudiyah in the infamous Triangle of Death when he was detained along with two co-workers by Iraqi troops over a paperwork dispute.
The 32-year-old Iraq war veteran says he was shocked that his captors were so hostile and unkind toward Americans.
"Most of the time, I had no clue how long I'd be held and whether I'd ever get out," he says.
King managed to secure Antiohos' release after getting a call from his wife. The congressman says he is appalled by the lack of concern on the part of White House and State Department officials, and he is calling for an investigation into this matter.
