Volunteer firefighters from Deer Park and Brentwood were busy putting out hot spots Friday in the Edgewood Oak Brush Preserve following massive brush fires.
The brush fires destroyed 80 acres, mostly in the preserve. Fire officials say the area consists of mulch, which easily re-ignites. The fires also came dangerously close to the Deer Park train station. Workers were also on the scene repairing cables and lines damaged in the fires.
Investigators are looking for whatever sparked the fires.
