One year from today, on May 7, 2025, anyone who wishes to fly within the United States without a passport is required to have a Real ID compliant driver's license or ID.

Current driver's licenses will still be valid for driving and basic identification but may not be used for domestic flight identification.

A passport, or another federally approved form of identification, may be used in place of Real ID to fly within the United States.

The Real ID Act was passed by United States Congress in 2005 after the 9/11 Commission's recommendation that the federal government set standards for its sources of identification.
