After Black Friday and Small Business Saturday, holiday deals will continue this week with Cyber Monday.
Trae Bodge, senior editor of RetailMeNot.com, recommends researching sales first, instead of jumping the gun at the first ostensibly good deal shoppers see. She says to first find a trusted source, and then go from there. It's advised to look at a retailer's website, in addition to their Twitter and Facebook feeds.
Bodge says the best places to snag deals are at apparel providers, followed by electronics and health and beauty outlets.
Analysts also say Cyber Monday will last a whole lot longer than 24 hours. Just as many stores turned Black Friday into a weeklong event, Cyber Monday may do the same. In fact, some online retailers started their Cyber Monday deals before Thanksgiving.
Since millions of shoppers are expected to be virtually surfing for deals online, it's important to keep security in mind, especially after recent breaches have put a number of retailers in the spotlight.
Michael Kaiser, of the National Cyber Alliance, says consumers must be proactive and take precautions when inputting their personal and credit information. He says to ensure your computer software is up to date, and use sites with two-step verification or multi-factor authentication.
Shoppers using their mobile devices are urged to consider using their cellular data instead of public Wi-Fi for a more secure Internet connection.
Last Cyber Monday, more than 131 million were estimated to have shopped online.
