Gov. Andrew Cuomo has issued an executive order to restrict paid sick leave to those who have traveled to COVID-19 hotspots.
The restriction to New York's COVID-19 paid sick leave law went into effect Friday.
The governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut also recently imposed travel restrictions on anyone coming to the tri-state area from states with high COVID-19 transmission, requiring them to self-quarantine for two weeks. Those states include Florida, Arizona, Texas, the Carolinas and several others.
A group of travelers at MacArthur Airport headed to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina say while they're concerned about losing paid sick time, they already booked the trip.
The order concerning employees losing paid sick leave only applies to voluntary travel, meaning workers would still be eligible for it if their employer asks them to visit a COVID-19 hotspot.
