As snow starts to fall, road crews across Long Island are ready for the worst when it comes to the winter storm.
LIPA CEO Richard Kessel says the storm will be tricky because forecasters are calling for snow, sleet, rain, ice and wind. He says it is something that will have to be followed closely. In the town of Brookhaven, trucks at the Coram yard were filled with sand. The Brookhaven supervisor says more than 300 pieces of equipment are ready go to work. And in the town of Southampton, crews were sent home early to rest up for the possibility of plowing all 450 miles of road.
In addition to the roads, Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) officials say they will be using anti-freeze trains to spray the third rails and switch heaters.
