There's a new addition to a busy stretch of road in Yonkers that's aimed at making it safer.

A yellow barrier is now on Yonkers Avenue, near the Cross County Parkway exit ramp.

Police say the goal is to increase the safety of drivers in the area.

Wednesday coverage

Officers say they often see drivers make illegal left turns at this intersection.

Police have also seen a number of accidents there. In fact, officers say there were about 50 motor vehicle accidents in that area in 2025. Many drivers were also ticketed for making that illegal left turn off the exit ramp.

Frequent drivers say they hope this new addition helps prevent that.

"I see the cars making left-hand turns all the time and they're not supposed to. There are signs posted across the street," says Florence, who lives in Yonkers.

Some drivers told News 12 they want to see more of these barriers on Yonkers Avenue in the future.
