A couple is accused of carrying out a home invasion, attacking a woman carrying a baby and shooting at her with a pellet gun.
Police say it was a dispute over unpaid rent that landed Jonathan Sunderland and his girlfriend, Jennifer Garcia, behind bars.
Officials say they violently pushed their way into their landlord's home on Cherry Road in Bayville, knocking down a female tenant and the baby boy she was holding.
Police say the couple then attacked the landlord.
"Once the defendant is inside, he sees the occupant of the home, the individual that he first had the landlord-tenant dispute with, places his hands around his neck, pushes him down to the ground," said Lt. Detective Richard LeBrun. "At that point, defendant Garcia, who was with the original defendant at this point, decides to kick the first victim's head."
Police say the violent confrontation didn't end there. Police say when the couple ran from the house, the female tenant followed them. That's when officers say Sunderland fired four shots from a pellet gun at the woman -- shattering the back window of a truck in the driveway.
Authorities say none of the pellets hit the woman.
Sunderland and Garcia were arrested a short time later at the house. They are facing a slew of charges, including burglary, assault, menacing and endangering the welfare of a child.
