Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone called on the federal government Tuesday for disaster relief funds due to the impact of COVID-19.
BRIEFING NOTES:
- Bellone is calling on the federal government for disaster relief funds due to the impact of COVID-19
- He is calling on the Legislature to pass two measures that would protect taxpayers and environmental program. Bellone wants the measures to be put on the ballot during the November elections.
- Bellone says he wants to increase and use sales tax to fund these measures. He says the last thing he wants to do is see anyone laid off.
- There are over 41,000 people who tested positive for COVID-19 in the county. The number of people who tested positive for antibodies is over 18,000.
- COVID-19 hospitalizations declined by one to 89 within the last 24 hours, and one person was moved to ICU, increasing that number to 28.
- Bellone says five people have died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
- Bellone says officials are working to protect taxpayers who were taxed by the IRS after they received grants to protect water quality in the county.
