Nassau police say a 7-Eleven clerk spooked off a would-be robber who wore a ski mask and was armed with a machete.
It happened at the store located at 4222 Sunrise Hwy. at 4:39 a.m. on Saturday. Police say the clerk was approached by a man who displayed a machete and demanded money.
The clerk pointed at the window and yelled that police were coming. The suspect then ran out of the door and was seen heading south on Hicksville Road.
There were no injuries and the suspect did not get away with any proceeds, according to a police release.
The suspect is described as a man standing between 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall. He wore a ripped, dark-colored sweatshirt with lettering that said "Farmingdale." He also had on a black ski mask, gray pants and white sneakers.
