A Deer Park teenager accused of posing as a police officer was arraigned on three counts of criminal impersonation Friday.
Investigators say Max Sapirman, 18, pretended to be a police officer in September and responded to a domestic violence call.
Detective Sgt. Jeffery Walker says the Commack wife involved in the call didn't want her husband arrested, but wanted an officer present. She spoke to a friend who believed her daughter was dating a police officer, and Sapirman showed up at the scene.
Police say on three separate occasions in September, Sapirman showed up to the home on Commack Road in full police officer gear. Twice, police say, he instructed the husband to leave his home for the night, and each time, asked the woman inside if she wanted him arrested. Police say Sapirman was carrying BB guns when he went out on the calls.
Approximately six weeks later, the wife realized that Sapirman was not a police officer and called 911.
Police are looking into if Sapirman tried to fool others into thinking he was an officer, including his girlfriend.
Anyone who thinks they may have made contact with Sapirman while he was allegedly posing as an officer is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
