With heat and humidity on the rise, cooling centers in Nassau and Suffolk are offering some relief for Long Islanders.
Several towns across the island have also extended pool and beach hours.
In Deer Park, families took to the popular spray park at Geiger Park.
"Especially since the pandemic we can come back here and have fun and cool off, let the kids get out of the house for a little bit and have fun," says Will Fowler, of Wyandanch.
While some get to have fun, others like landscapers, roofers and highway crews have to work.
Jack Perretta, a highway maintenance supervisor with the Town of Hempstead, says this weather may be rough but his guys get used to extreme temperatures and take extra precautions.
"We just tell them to keep themselves hydrated and take breaks if they feel too hot," says Perretta.
Northwell Health physician Dr. David Tran says this weather can be particularly dangerous for the elderly and those with certain health conditions.
"Especially those on certain medications," says Tran. "It can impair their ability to sweat, some blood pressure medication, certain seizure medications."
Town of Hempstead Supervisor Donald Clavin says if people need to go out they should go early.
