Cooling centers open in Hempstead and Riverhead amid excessive heat

Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin says the centers will be located in Baldwin, Bellmore, Valley Stream, Levittown and Oceanside.

Cooling centers have been opened in Hempstead and Riverhead as temperatures continue to soar across Long Island.
Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin says the centers will be located in Baldwin, Bellmore, Valley Stream, Levittown and Oceanside.
There will also be a cooling center at the Riverhead Senior Center. It is opened Monday until 4:30 p.m.
Officials say it will also be opened from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
