Temperatures will remain below normal, but should be near freezing much of the week before another bitter blast arrives over the weekend.
Cold and mostly quiet weather will stick around on Long Island through Thursday. Temperatures stay below freezing, and for the most part it will be dry. A few flurries are possible Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning, but if anything falls, it would just be a light dusting in a few spots.
Things turn more active on Friday as a blast of Arctic air moves in from Canada. This could bring a period of light snow across Long Island, followed by much colder air for the weekend. Friday night into Saturday will feel brutally cold, with dangerous wind chills well below zero and strong northwest winds making it feel even colder.
Along the South Shore of Long Island, minor tidal flooding is possible around this morning’s high tide, mainly in southern Nassau County.
Any flooding should be brief and limited to the most flood-prone areas. No additional coastal flooding issues are expected for the rest of the week. This is mainly due to the proximity to the full moon which just occurred on Feb. 1.
