Nassau County officials urged residents to stay safe ahead of extreme temperatures over the next couple of days.

"Don't exercise when it's really, really hot. Stay inside, wear loose fitting clothes, wear sunscreen drink water, have plenty of water available," stressed Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman.

Officials say the county had 155 heat-related emergency room visits last year.

They advise county residents to watch out for signs of heat exhaustion like dizziness, nausea and sweating profusely.

Officials add that a cooling center is available at Mitchell Field. It's open 24 hours for residents who need to escape from the heat.
