The controversy continues in Massapequa over whether sixth-graders should stay in elementary school or move to middle school.

A petition was available to sign last night at the Community Center in Massapequa.

Many parents want their graduated fifth-graders to go to sixth-grade at Berner Middle School.

The parents say millions of dollars have been spent on the transition, and that students will have more opportunities for education, clubs and sports.

The petition is for an affidavit to stop a recent reversal from the Massapequa School Board.

The board voted last week to stop the move to Berner Middle School in September.
