A computer glitch is delaying the delivery of reimbursement checks for some of Suffolk's senior citizens.
The EPIC prescription reimbursement program is run by Suffolk County for any resident older than 65 on a fixed income. The $3.1 million program, the only county-run system of its kind in New York, reimburses 20,000 senior citizens for their cash co-pays.
"We contract with the state, so that they send out the letters to the seniors," said Holly Rhodes-Teague, from the county's Office for the Aging. "Last year we had a substantial delay in letters when they were making changes to the Medicare program."
Rhodes-Teague said the county is trying to catch up from the approximate three-month delays seniors are experiencing.
"We are doing the best we can," she said.
