A Ridge woman who has been in a coma for two weeks after an accident in the Virgin Islands was flown back to Long Island yesterday evening.
Kelly Breem, 34, was struck by a car on the island of St. Thomas back on Nov. 14. She's in need of special medical treatment but doesn't have health insurance, and her family says they could not afford to fly her home.
Rep. Tim Bishop's (D-N.Y.) office stepped in to help, family members say. An air ambulance company from Arizona brought Breem to MacArthur Airport tonight, free of charge.
Stony Brook University Medical Center says now that Breem is home, it will take over her treatment.
