Early education and child care providers have overwhelmingly voted in favor of joining the teachers' union.A report in The New York Times says state officials are calling it one of the largest successful organizing drives in the city in decades. The final vote was 8,382 in favor of joining and 96 against.Workers said they were in favor of the move because it will raise their salaries, provide health insurance and allow for paid vacations. Currently, workers said they did not have health insurance and had salaries as low as $19,000.Mayor Bloomberg's administration says the change could cost the city up to $100 million each year.
