Hundreds of community members bundled up to see a Christmas tree lighting in Brentwood.
Santa, the Grinch and friends from Sesame Street stopped by Brentwood High School Friday to help flip the switch and start the festivities.
This year the annual event was extra special because it helped raise awareness for hurricane relief to help loved ones in areas like Puerto Rico.
"When we think about our roots, a lot of us here are from Hispanic culture and we have to help out those who are in need and it's just a way to show that we do care and we do see our current events happening," said senior Raquel Acosta.
The event helped to collect canned goods and other essentials, as well as raise money for friends and family both locally and around the world.
Assistant Superintendent of Special Services Rhonda Young says it's important to show the students how to give back to be empathetic to others.
"A lot has happened and it's just something we wanted to take on this year," Young said.
The event also featured a petting zoo.
