A chicken stolen from a West Islip pet store has been returned to its rightful owner.
The bird, named Heckle, was taken from B.T.J.'s Jungle on Sunrise Highway last week along with turtles, fish and around $1,000 in merchandise. Nancy Rebore, of West Islip, says she was in her car following a jog and spotted Heckle on August Road.
Rebore says she pushed the chicken away from the street and called the pet shop to alert them of her discovery.
Anyone with information on the other animals that are still missing is urged to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
