While many Long Islanders sat down to enjoy a holiday meal with friends and family tonight, there were many others without enough to eat.
Perfecting Faith Church in Freeport provided roughly 400 hot meals and music for those in need this Thanksgiving.
The church has been hosting similar Thanksgiving dinners for almost a decade, according to Pastor Donnie McClurkin. The church invites those in need from across Long Island, Queens and Brooklyn.
In Baldwin, the House of Refuge Helping Hands Ministry held its first Thanksgiving Community Dinner, providing meals to another 75 people.
The volunteers of both organizations say they will return to feed the hungry next year.
They say the need here on the Island is not going away - it is only growing.
