Officials say firefighters needed to ventilate the home before the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals could continue its investigation.According to officials, an elderly woman used to live at the home on Belver Avenue, but moved out when she got sick. Neighbors say the owner's daughter was supposed to come by the house to feed the animals.Officials say some of the cats had to be put to sleep due to illness. The Town of Islip says it has condemned the home as being unfit for human occupancy.
