Canine Companions pairs people with disabilities with extensively trained service dogs that can help them be more independent.
The organization held its graduation Friday, where the dogs headed off to their forever homes.
The pups were raised by “puppy raisers,” who handed over their leashes during Friday's ceremony.
Nine-year-old Bear Bonner, of Bay Shore, has spinal muscular atrophy and uses a power wheelchair to get around.
He went home with the newest member of the Bonner family: Vanni.
The dog can help Bear with many things, including picking up toys and opening doors.
Bear told News 12 he’s “very excited.”
