Camp Fahrenheit 516 in Old Bethpage opened for its sixth summer Thursday to train future Long Island firefighters
The camp at the Nassau County Fire Service Academy helps future firefighters learn and train.
Children, ages 14 through 17 years old, are eligible to sign up for the camp.
Jerry Presta from the Nassau Junior Firefighters Association says this camp gives students a firsthand account of what it is like to be a firefighter.
Campers learn how to deal with car fires, house fires, and how to get up and down ladders.
There are 27 children from 13 different departments who are attending the weeklong camp.
