Federal and local officials were at the Brooklyn Children's Hospital vaccination site celebrating the youngest New Yorkers receiving their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
“Vaccines save lives,” said Dr. Ramon Tallaj, chairman of SOMOS Community Care. “Now 6 months to 5 years old, we must all embrace that. It’s up to us to start doing what is right.”
So far, New York City received 20,000 pediatric doses. Last week, the Food and Drug Administration authorized both the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for kids as young as 6 months old, and the Centers for Disease Control urges that all eligible children get the shot.
“We can start to, you know, live normal life again,” said Lynette Ko, mother of a young child at the vaccination site. “He was a baby when COVID hit, and we never really got to experience a lot of fun things.”
Parents can get their kids vaccinated at any of the 10 city-run vaccine sites. For a full list of locations, click HERE.
