Officials in the Town of Brookhaven have delayed their decision to vote on a Carmans River protection plan after a heated public debate this evening. As News 12 Long Island has reported, the original proposal would have preserved approximately 13,000 acres on both sides of the river. It aimed to move development away from the water and nearby communities, and closer to downtown areas instead. The waterway runs from Middle Island down to the Great South Bay. Three council members put forward a new plan tonight they insist is a compromise. The next town hall meeting is scheduled for April 24.Activists, developers agree on plan to protect Carmans River
