Residents at the Pinehurst Senior Apartments in East Patchogue say they’re living in unsafe and deteriorating conditions — and they’re demanding action.

From broken elevators to what tenants describe as rampant drug activity and strangers roaming the halls, some seniors say they no longer feel safe in their own homes. Many of the residents are elderly or have mobility issues, and they claim the building’s management, Conifer LLC, has failed to maintain the property or protect the people living there.

Tenant Eva Colini says the lack of security after dark is especially troubling.

“There’s drug deals going on outside, and all sorts of people that come in here who don’t belong,” she said. “They’re not living here, but they roam the building.”

During a visit to the complex this week, News 12 observed one of the elevators out of order - a major concern in a building where many residents rely on it for mobility. An air duct also appeared unclean, further raising health concerns.

Mary Fran, president of the tenant association, expressed frustration with the management.

“This management does not want to work with residents,” she said. “They just do not want to work with the residents.”

This isn’t the first time Pinehurst Apartments has come under scrutiny. In 2023, residents raised concerns about garbage piling up, and in 2022, a burst pipe caused water to leak into several units.

Residents also claim that recent staff cuts - including maintenance workers and security personnel - have made matters worse.

Confer says it made the necessary repairs on Tuesday and both elevators are back in service.

The issue was caused when a call button was pushed behind the wall.

Conifer says that one of the two boilers at Pinehurst has been operating continuously and providing hot water to residents.

A mechanical contractor is scheduled to be on site Wednesday morning to complete repairs on the second boiler.
