New York has delayed the deadline for Gov. Eliot Spitzer to decide on Broadwater?s Long Island Sound barge by 60 days.
State officials say the extra time is needed to review the application. Broadwater Energy agrees with the delay. "We thought in the best interests of all parties to continue the dialogue," Broadwater Energy Senior Vice President John Hritcko says.
As the original Feb. 12 deadline drew near, Broadwater revved up its ad campaign. Critics say the TV ads claiming homeowners will save $300 on their energy costs are misleading.
Adrienne Esposito, of Citizens Campaign for the Environment, thinks the delay was instigated by Broadwater to give its media campaign more time to succeed.
Esposito says she and other representatives from the Citizens Campaign for the Environment are scheduled to meet with Gov. Spitzer on Monday to discuss the Broadwater project.
