Officials asked for the public’s help on Monday to crack down on illegal underground sites after two men were killed and one man and one woman were injured on the East End in Bridgeport.

"These places breed illegal activity and they breed violence and it's really important that we come out and reach out to the community and ask for the community's help to let us know when places like these pop up," said Bridgeport Police Chief Roderick Porter.

Mayor Joe Ganim joined Police Chief Roderick Porter and Health Director Dr. Elizabeth Rivera-Rodriguez in a press conference against illegal establishments.

"They pop up, you shut them down, they pop up again," said Ganim.

The mayor said the city's police, health and fire departments will be working together to shut down any illegal establishment like the one where they say this double murder took place.

Bridgeport police say the two men fatally shot on Saturday night have been identified as 30-year-old Richard Davis and 32-year-old Tayvon Geter.

Officers said they responded to reports of multiple people shot around 11:15 p.m. at the intersection of Stratford Avenue and Logan Street.

They found three people with gunshot wounds. The victims were taken to the hospital. A fourth gunshot victim arrived at the hospital shortly after.

Davis and Geter died on Sunday morning. The other two wounded remain in stable condition. Police identified them as a 34-year-old Bridgeport woman and a 25-year-old Bridgeport man.

Police have not released details about the type of illegal business involved or what circumstances led up to the shooting.

"We don't know what we don't know and so we really rely on you to tell us what you are seeing, what are you hearing, what have you observed,” Rivera-Rodriguez said. Once you report it, we'll be proactive in trying to find ways to come in, shut it down, or make whatever arrangements need to get done to stop what's happening."
