An East End man working to help victims devastated by Typhoon Haiyan spoke to News 12 via Skype today about the ongoing effort.

Brian Lydon, of East Hampton, has spent the past month volunteering to help rebuild the lives of those affected by the storm, which saw winds reach nearly 200 mph.

"The indigenous people of these mountains and these fishermen have lost their way of life," says Lydon. "All of the crops, all the rice paddies, all of the bananas...They have signs in their hands 'please, we're starving, we need food.'"

Much of Lydon's time is spent delivering rice, water and simple medicine like Tylenol to people whose meager homes were destroyed.

A group known as East End Cares has been raising donations to help fund his trip. It will be holding a fundraiser Friday night at Montauk's Gurney's Inn with all proceeds going directly to help in the rescue efforts in the Philippines.
