A 14-year-old Brentwood boy is recovering from emergency surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital after being shot in the stomach by his 13-year-old cousin Monday.
Police say they believe the shooting was accidental and occurred while the 13-year-old was showing off a .38-caliber pistol to his cousin and another friend. According to investigators, the boy says he found the gun in the woods while playing basketball at a nearby park. They say the boy, who says the gun accidentally fired a round, appears to be remorseful.
The 13-year-old is being charged with reckless assault.
