A Brentwood street where firefighter Chris Allen called home his entire life now bears his name.

Dozens gathered on Friday for a ceremony to christen Newman Street in Brentwood "Ex-Chief Chris J. Allen Way." Allen, who died last year after battling cancer, served more than four decades as a firefighter in Brentwood and also had a tenure as the department's chief.

Allen lived on Newman Street his whole life and his son, also named Chris, lives in the home his father grew up in.

"He didn't want to do anything for any kind of recognition," the younger Chris said. "He just wanted to do it because it was the right thing to do."

Allen's family joined Town of Islip officials and representatives from various fire agencies to celebrate the dedication.
