Republican Philip Boyle has defeated Democrat Ernie Mattice in a special election Tuesday to win a state Assembly seat in the 8th District.
Boyle received 6,227 votes, or 66 percent of the total from 108 precincts. Mattice had 3,205 votes.
In the Nassau race for the 17th District seat, Republican Thomas McKevitt won 67 percent of the vote to beat Democrat Zahid Ali Syed.
