More than half a dozen dolphins were spotted off the East End in recent days.
The Atlantic Marine Conservation Society says it found nine bottlenose dolphins feeding just east of Shinnecock Inlet in Southampton last week.
But the society says it also turned up a less impressive discovery: nearly 7 pounds of garbage, including plastics and balloons.
Biologists say that kind of debris is the leading cause of injury and death in marine animals.
