By Bob Wolff It's been a tough couple of weeks. Sports used to provide a little relief from the front page economic headlines, but those days are gone. This past week we received news of A-Rod's drug confessions, Michael Phelps caught smoking from a bong, Joe Torre's Yankee memories and evidence that our city teams were still struggling. Brett Favre threw in a retirement announcement and Darryl Strawberry will pick up a few bucks with a new book detailing some wild Met parties. To make matters more unsavory, how about the avalanche of drug commercials on the sports news? Seems there's a new pill for every ailment known to mankind. Then the announcers explain that the side effects of taking the pills can be even worse than the disease itself. Being a sport luminary imposes an obligation. People listen to what they say. Unfortunate, too few demonstrate little athletic discipline in airing tawdry views. Like the drug manufacturers, they should be aware of all those harmful side effects.
I'm Bob Wolff and that's my Point of View.
