The City of Bridgeport is upgrading the field for Black Rock's Little League baseball team.
Mayor Joe Ganim and other elected officials gathered at Ellsworth Park Tuesday for the official groundbreaking ceremony.
Two new fields will be installed over the existing one, with new drainage systems, new fencing and foul poles.
"Anytime it rains, our fields go offline anywhere from one to four days. They really don't drain well, or they hadn't, hopefully they will going forward. Then that leads to practices being canceled, games being canceled, things really having to be shuffled around," says Brian Kabel, president of Black Rock Little League.
Kabel says the entire project is an effort to ensure all facilities used by children are up-to-date and safe for use.
