Hauppauge’s Michael Oliveto has signed his rookie contract with the Detroit Tigers for $2.8 million.

Oliveto was the 34th pick in the Major League Baseball draft.

The Hauppauge graduate is one of the top catchers in the draft class.

The lefty led the Island with 17 home runs in the past two seasons. As a junior, he led Hauppauge to its only Long Island championship.

Oliveto will start out playing for the Tigers single-A minor league team in Lakeland, Florida.
