In 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke at Temple Beth-El in Great Neck.

On Friday, the Jewish community came together to commemorate his historic speech with a Shabbat service.

They’ve been honoring the civil rights hero’s legacy for more than 50 years.

Rabbi Brian Stoller says Dr. King’s message of unity is just as important today.

“His commitment to justice and compassion and love for all human beings is something that is at the core of who we are as a congregation,” Stoller said.

There was a community dinner before the service. Attorney General Letitia James was among the community leaders in attendance.
