LGBT Long Islanders, concerned about the incoming presidency of Donald Trump, held a town hall meeting in Bay Shore Thursday night.
"I am terrified that the rights that I've had for a year and a half at most will be taken away from me," says Kimberly Amato, of Hicksville.
Anti-Trump protests are taking place throughout the country, but Trump will soon be president. People at the meeting wanted to come together and voice their concerns.
"Yesterday, I was a complete mess," says David Kilmnick, CEO of the LGBT Network. "People feel empowered now and proud to be bigoted. And that's not something we're going to stand for."
For his part, Trump did voice support for the LGBT community during his campaign.
Speaking at the Republican National Convention in the wake of the terror attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida earlier this year, Trump vowed to "protect our LGBTQ citizens from the violence and oppression of a hateful foreign ideology."
