The bald eagle is making a comeback on Long Island.

Centerport's Mill Pond is one spot in particular where people have come to look at the bald eagles.

A pair of nesting eagles there hatched two eaglets and they have been wowing the crowds since early this year, soaring over ponds and harbors, building their nest and hatching their eggs.

The Department of Environmental Conservation says there are eight known bald eagle nests on Long Island. Five of the nests are active.

The bald eagles had disappeared for decades when the insecticide DDT was used.
