More than 400 children in need from Suffolk County shelters and foster care programs received new backpacks loaded with school supplies Tuesday.
The Long Island Coalition for the Homeless partnered with another volunteer group, Holiday Magic, to donate the supplies.
The event also gave the children a chance to play games and have their faces painted at the 4-H Club.
In all, the volunteers expect to give out about 4,000 backpacks before the start of the school year.
